"Chain Smoke" is a collaborative project between Los Angeles native photographer and educator Sean Maung and Cash Machine LA, resulting in a book and DVD. Sean Maung's photography has been featured in notable publications like Nike, Dazed, Vogue, and more. The DVD component serves as a video art piece, expanding upon the original book, while a zine insert offers context and insight, enriching the experience of this singular body of work.
The design process for the DVD was conceived as a video art piece, expanding upon the photographic work from the original book. Taking cues from the aesthetics of 1980s pulp novels, the design sought to capture the essence of this era. To provide viewers with a deeper understanding of the project, a zine insert was created, serving as a contextual companion to the video and the entire body of work, ensuring a comprehensive and immersive artistic experience.
